Some of our products are made entirely or partially from merino wool. Merino wool has many great properties. It is very durable, breathable and soft, but above all it is a naturally renewable raw material - and therefore also biodegradable. As clothing it keeps you warm in the cold. But when it is warm it keeps you cool - at least for us. And it is super easy to care for. Yes, to a certain extent it cleans itself and does not smell. But what is most important to us at susty is that we only use merino wool that is guaranteed to be mulesing-free.

The yarn for our hats is made from 100% merino wool and is spun in Italy. It also contains 100% of the positive properties that make this yarn so special. A particular advantage for us: it regulates temperature, is breathable, antibacterial and odor-inhibiting.

The yarn for this hat is spun in Italy and brings together the best of two fibers, as it is made of 50% high-quality merino wool and 50% polyester from recycled PET bottles. So it's the perfect combination of natural functional fiber from animal-friendly farming, of course chlorine and museling-free - and sturdy synthetic fiber from sustainable recycling.

Mulesing-free

It is particularly important to us to use Merino wool, which is guaranteed to be mulesing-free . Mulesing is a controversial method of protecting sheep from fly strikes, in which pieces of skin around the anus and genital region are removed from lambs. This prevents the settlement of parasites that can nest in these areas and cause serious damage to the animals. This practice is particularly widespread in Australia and New Zealand, but has been criticized due to a lack of anesthesia and inadequate wound care. In New Zealand, mulesing has largely been voluntarily discontinued since 2010. It is mainly used on Merino sheep.
